Always striving upwards

Sustainability

Heeding the cry of Pope Francis to tread more lightly on the Earth and live in a more sustainable manner, Sacred Heart has committed itself to reducing its environmental footprint. Several initiatives have been implemented this year including the installation of 100kW of solar panels, replacing almost all lights LEDs, the creation of a Sustainability Coordinator position and paper hand towels in student bathrooms being replaced with energy efficient hand dryers. We have also registered as a ResourceSmart School with Sustainability Victoria and are working towards accreditation as a sustainable school.

Students have also been involved in sustainability projects with the SRC planning for the installation of recycling bins in the courtyard and the Year 12 VM students creating a vegetable garden using water-efficient wicking technology (see separate article).
