At Monday afternoon’s College assembly, we were delighted to announce this as the name for our recently refurbished and revitalised canteen. Earlier this year, we invited students to submit their ideas for a name, along with the reasons behind their choice. The response was incredible, over 100 entries were received from students across all year levels, making it a very tough decision for our judging panel. Clearly, the canteen holds a special place in our College community!
Interestingly, certain words appeared often—‘heart’ featured in 35 entries, while ‘sacred’ appeared in 23—and several names were suggested multiple times. In fact, ‘The Heart Hub’ was proposed by more than just our two winners, What set these winning entries apart, however, were the thoughtful and inspiring explanations provided by the students.
Many submissions described the canteen as more than just a place to buy food. Students spoke of it as a place to “gather, recharge and form lasting bonds,” a place to “fuel our learning,” and even one that “captures the spirit of our school.” With such high expectations, our canteen has a lot to live up to! Congratulations to Tia (Year 8) and Sasmi (Year 12). and thank you to every student who contributed an entry, we truly appreciated your creativity and enthusiasm.
As Term 3 draws to a close, I’m sure all students are looking forward to a well-deserved break, especially for our Year 12 students for whom the end of secondary school is in sight. I wish all our students a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday.
