Take Care

As we edge closer to the end of the semester, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by weariness and stress. Assessments, exams and keeping up with general subject demands become more challenging as the weather gets colder and the need to rest becomes stronger. It is important to ensure effective selfcare is prioritised.

These kids Helpline tips may help improve mental and physical health:

Move

Sixty minutes of vigorous exercise each day:

  • Doing chores
  • Playing sport
  • Walking the dog
  • Walking to destinations

Eat

Eat the rainbow of fruits and vegetables: purple/blue, red, orange/yellow, green and brown/white. Try to eat at least 30 plant-based whole foods each week.

Limit discretionary foods (i.e. those with saturated fats, added salt and/or added sugar)

Sleep

Get 8 to 10 hours of sleep at night to reduce anxiety and clean out the toxins that build up in your brain. Keep the phone out of the bedroom!
