Outdoor Ed Adrenaline Rush
There’s no better classroom than the mountains - and our Year 11 Outdoor and Environmental Studies students found that out first hand on their recent High-Country camp.
Set against the stunning alpine backdrop of Mt Buller and Mt Stirling, students stepped well beyond the classroom and into a world of challenge, adventure and discovery. From carving along mountain bike trails to pushing themselves on the hike to Mt Stirling’s summit, each experience tested both their physical endurance and decision-making skills.
One of the standout moments was tackling the Via Ferrata at Mt Buller - an exhilarating climb that had students clipped into cables as they navigated exposed rock faces high above the alpine landscape. It was a powerful lesson in managing risk, building trust and backing themselves in unfamiliar environments.
The learning didn’t stop with the physical challenges. Students were fortunate to hear from Ali Kirkwood, Environment Manager for Alpine Resorts Victoria (ARV), who shared insights into the delicate balance of protecting alpine environments while supporting Mt Buller as a thriving winter ski destination. This real-world perspective brought classroom concepts to life in a meaningful way.
It wasn’t all hard work. There were plenty of laughs, stories and moments to take in the incredible surroundings - experiences that will stick with students long after the camp has finished.
A fantastic start to the year for our Outdoor Ed students, who represented the school with enthusiasm, courage and a willingness to embrace every adventure.
