Witnessing Impact: Sacred Heart Vietnam Immersion
In December 2025, ten girls from Sacred Heart Oakleigh joined ten girls from Sacred Heart Sorrento (Perth) on a Vietnam Immersion Program to learn more about the impactful work of the RNDM sisters. This experience allowed us to witness firsthand the sisters’ unwavering dedication to serving vulnerable communities. Through their mission, the sisters provide education, food, shelter, healthcare and daily necessities to those in need, particularly young girls who would otherwise have limited access to schooling.
During our time in Vietnam, we visited the girls’ dormitory in Long Dien, Thủ Đức, ThiNghe Kindergarten, and several Indigenous villages. These visits opened our eyes to the realities of life for many families and deepened our appreciation for the sisters’ compassion and commitment. We also explored significant historical sites such as the Cu Chi Tunnels and the Reunification Palace, which broadened our understanding of Vietnam’s complex history and resilient spirit.
The highlight of our trip was spending time with the girls at the Long Dien boarding house, where students from Years 6 to 12 live so they can attend school. Their warmth, resilience and genuine joy were contagious, creating meaningful connections despite language barriers.
Overall, the immersion was an emotional and spiritual journey that strengthened our faith, expanded our global perspective and deepened our friendships. It is an experience that has shaped our understanding of service and gratitude, leaving us with memories and lessons that will last a lifetime.
