Year 7 Parent & Carer's Evening

A Warm Start to 2026

We were delighted to welcome so many families to our Year 7 Welcome Evening on Tuesday, 3 February. The evening provided a valuable opportunity for parents and carers to connect with staff, learn more about the College, and gain insight into the Year 7 program.

College Principal, Julie Swanson, officially welcomed families and introduced the 2026 College Leadership Team, along with the key priorities outlined in the College Action Plan. These include strengthening connections between students’ faith and life experiences, supporting long-term retention of knowledge, and fostering new and meaningful partnerships within our community.

Hayley Watson, Acting Deputy Principal – Teaching and Learning, shared important information regarding academic expectations and student learning. Drawing on research from the Australian Council for Educational Research (2021), Hayley highlighted students’ strong desire to be problem-solvers and agents of their own change. She also outlined the Thrive: Skills for Success program, which is delivered as part of the Year 7 curriculum to support students’ learning, wellbeing and personal development.

College Counsellor, Amy McDonald, provided practical strategies to support a smooth transition into secondary schooling and shared information about accessing support should any challenges arise.

Year Level Leader, Sally Farr, outlined key elements of the Year 7 experience, including the Wellbeing for Learning Program, the Big Sister Little Sister Buddy Program, and the importance of consistent school attendance.

Following the formal presentations, families had the opportunity to meet Homeroom teachers, access IT support, discuss the Outdoor Education Camp, connect with key staff members and build relationships with fellow parents and carers over a light supper.

Key information from the evening will be shared with all parents via PAM.

We sincerely thank everyone who attended and contributed to such a positive and engaging evening, and we look forward to partnering closely with families throughout the year.
