Year 7 Technologies Boot Camp: Building Confidence from Day One
Our Year 7 students recently took part in the Technologies Boot Camp, an important program designed to support their transition into secondary school and set them up for success in their digital learning.
The Boot Camp introduced students to the College’s core digital systems, including SIMON, email, OneNote and OneDrive. With guidance from past student presenters and the support of staff; students worked through a structured booklet that helped them learn how to access information, organise their work and communicate confidently within our digital environment.
For many students, this early exposure reduced uncertainty and built confidence as they navigated new systems, routines and expectations. The Boot Camp also encouraged positive learning behaviours, such as problem-solving, collaboration and asking for help when needed. Importantly, it provided all students with a shared foundation, ensuring consistency across classes and learning areas.
The booklet will continue to be used throughout the year in IT classes as a reference and consolidation tool, reinforcing key skills as students develop greater independence in their learning.
Overall, the Year 7 Technologies Boot Camp has played a valuable role in helping our newest students feel prepared, supported and ready to engage with digital learning across the College.
