CGSAV Australian Rules

We have recently experienced some success of the football field with the 3 teams that competed in the CGSAV Div 3 Australian Rules Competition on 12 June at Parkville. The Senior team went through undefeated bring home the championship plaque and Tess B (Year 12) winning Best on Ground for the Grand Final, congratulations Tess and the senior football team!

A special mention has to go to Savanah H (Year 12) who displayed she wasn't just a good sportswoman but a fabulous person. Savanah was a standout in all games across the day on the field, a fantastic leader in captaining the team leading by example playing hard and fair on the field and supporting her team. She also took it upon herself to grab the broom, stay behind and sweep out the change rooms at the end of a muddy, grassy day demonstrating her exemplary values and respect for the fabulous new venue and the organiser.

Congratulations must also go out to the Intermediate Team who also went through the competition undefeated. Chiara R (Year 9) was the stand out Intermediate player winning Most Valuable Player (MVP) and voted Best on Ground in the Grand Final. Scarlett J (Year 10) was a fabulous Captain supporting and leading the team on the day.

The Juniors improved with every game they played and won through to the Grand Final just being pipped ending the day as runners up.

Thanks to our super coaches: Ms Prichard - Seniors, Ms Stokes - Intermediates, Ms Stoforidis - Juniors for sharing their knowledge and passion for footy with their teams on the day.

CGSAV Cross Country

On Thursday 5 June, SHGC Cross Country Team went to Yarra Bend, Fairfield to compete in the CGSAV Competition. It was a perfect day for Cross Country with a still sunny day with mild temperatures. The girls performed well doing SHGC proud with a strong crew of 24 runners for the juniors and Maya L (Year 8) medaling in 8th place. A special mention goes out to Sasha M (Year 9) for being the only SHGC competitor in the Inter Division running strongly. Within the 4 strong crew of seniors we had Aida D (Year 12) finish 3rd and Leila K (Year 12) also medaling in 8th place.

SHGC were in charge of hosting the day which was a team effort with many thanks to Mr McGuigan for helping with set up and riding at the tail of the pack for each race, keeping the girls safe and clocking up some k's on the mountain bike. Thanks also to Mr Prowse for coming out to Yarra Bend to set up the PA System, we received big compliments for the PA system pumping out music, making it a carnival atmosphere. Thanks also to Ms Smith and Ms Quinn for looking after the team and sharing with the girls their enthusiasm for running on the day and Ms Gibson for her assistance in set up and trouble shooting throughout the day.
