Creative Arts Exhibition

Congratulations to the talented SHGC students who have been selected for the 2025 Creative Arts Exhibition:

____________

Zoe, Year 11 – The Far Away Flowers

The Self-portrait “The Far Away Flowers” explores the act of escaping reality and finding comfort and familiarity in the fictional world. The piece depicts how the stresses of daily life can become overwhelming, resulting in the formation of connections with fantasy as an attempt to ease the difficulties of life. The pixelated flowers symbolise the fictional world; and how prolonged act escapism has manifested its way into reality and gradually begins to cloud the subject’s vision, ultimately warping and distorting the line between what is real and what is fake.

Amelia, Year 12 – Duality in a Pot

Combining themes of light and dark, this whimsical sculpture takes on a traditional Athenian style of vase. Inspired by artist, Grayson Perry, I aimed to directly contrast contemporary themes with established techniques. The vibrant floral depictions counterbalance the unlit base representing night, as if the figure is reaching into the light, attempting to escape the dark realities. Through the pockets of illumination in contrary to the dark areas, the piece evokes a sense of longing and yearning for the figure represented to reach the bright blooms, fleeing the murky dead of night.

Lily, Class of 2024 – Quiet as a Mouse

Quiet as a Mouse is a depiction of Selective Mutism- what if feels like as a child to be isolated, different from other people- to feel the judgement at your silence from those around you, even as they themselves make no effort to connect, nor to understand.

The incredible artworks will be displayed during the Catholic Education Week Creative Arts Exhibition from 16 – 22 March at the Catholic Leadership Centre. This is a showcase for the creative gifts of our students as well as the teachers and families who support them.
