Alyssa Polites

From SHGC to Scotland: Cycling Star Returns to the Games

Sacred Heart Girls’ College is proud to celebrate past student Alyssa Polites on her selection for the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games—a remarkable milestone in an already outstanding cycling career.

At just 23 years old, Alyssa has built an international résumé that many athletes spend a lifetime chasing. She first represented Australia at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games at only 19. Despite battling long COVID and being unable to race, she still proudly wore the green and gold—an early sign of the resilience and determination that continue to define her career.

Since then, Alyssa has competed at multiple World Cups, the 2025 World Championships in Chile, and currently holds the title of Omnium National Champion.

In Glasgow, Alyssa will contest a full suite of endurance events, including the 4km Teams Pursuit alongside Georgia Baker, Sophie Edwards, Claudia Marcks and Felicity Wilson‑Haffenden. She will also line up for all the major bunch races: the scratch race, elimination race and points race. Competition runs 30 July – 2 August.

Before the Games begin, Alyssa will head to staging camp in Newport, Wales on 11 July, joining the national squad before moving into competition mode on 27 July.

Following Glasgow, she will continue her European road campaign with Meridian Blue, before returning to Australia in late September to prepare for potential selection for the Track World Championships in China.

Alyssa’s journey is a testament to perseverance, talent and the power of backing yourself—even through setbacks. The SHGC community will be cheering her on every lap.
