A Night of Italian Culture
Last week, the Year 10 Italian class was fortunate to take part in the Serata Italiana with students from Mazenod College. The event was a fantastic opportunity to practise our Italian skills while meeting new people in a fun environment. The teachers kindly put together a booklet which guided us through the various activities we completed during the night.
The night began with an icebreaker activity where we had to find people who matched different descriptions in our booklets. This helped everyone get to know each other and encouraged us to practice speaking Italian. We then participated in a speed-dating type activity, introducing ourselves and having short conversations in Italian with all of the students.
Next, we worked in small groups to complete an Italian quiz, testing our knowledge of the language and culture. We also taught the Mazenod students to play Scopa; a traditional Italian card game that we are familiar with.
To finish the evening, everyone enjoyed delicious pizza and cannoli with our new friends that we’d made throughout the evening. Overall, the Serata Italiana was a memorable experience that improved our confidence in speaking Italian and allowed us to make new connections.
