French Film Festival - Language Learning Through Film
On Friday 20 March, the French students of SHGC, from Years 10 to 12, travelled to South Yarra to enjoy the annual French Film festival and watch a beautiful French film together. The film we saw, ‘Les Musiciens’, told the story of four musicians, brought together to play with very famous and renowned violins, the Stradivarius set (A rare, curated collection of string instruments crafted by the Italian luthier Antonio Stradivari (1644–1737) that are brought together to be played as an ensemble, usually a string quartet. They are kept in Madrid's Royal Palace). However, during rehearsals, the musicians have difficulties playing together in harmony. What followed was a heartwarming story which left a lasting impact on many of us.
As film is an essential part of French culture, we were eager to take this unique opportunity to immerse ourselves, learning more about the French way of life as well as exposing ourselves to broader language. It was certainly a memorable experience and has left many students excited for what may be in store next year!
