The Library celebrated Sea Week with a large display in the Library that the students contributed to in lunchtime activities. Australia celebrates Sea Week to promote our marine environment as well as an understanding of our oceans and the importance of protecting them. Oceans have an important role in regulating climate and producing oxygen and making Earth habitable. The display highlights the 7 principles of ocean literacy and is a very colourful addition to our Library space.
Other celebrations:
The Library has also been celebrating International Women’s Day and Women's History Month with a display as students walk in the front door. We have also celebrated author Ann Liang’s birthday. Ann Liang is a Melbourne author of young adult and adult fiction, and her books are constantly being read by our students. Quite often requiring a reservation for students to be able to read her papular novels.
The Library is also gearing up for Easter and as always students have been participating in a variety of lunchtime activities.
New Books
The Library is continually updating its collections. Students are encouraged to check out ‘What’s New’ in the collections via our New Book Display and on the ends of the shelves. We are also trying to make it easier for popular books to be accessible by buying an extra copy or two. Book suggestions are always welcome with each suggestion carefully considered and decisions being guided by MACS and school policies.
New Library Opening Hours
Students have embraced our extended opening hours after school Monday – Thursday. Students have been coming in small groups or individually to complete study and homework as well as the available activities that the Library provides during lunchtime activities. The Library is now open until 5pm Monday – Thursday.
