Balance the Scales: Celebrating IWD
Over the past week, the Sacred Heart community proudly celebrated International Women’s Day through a range of meaningful activities. A highlight was the homeroom session organised by our College Captains, Aggie and Serena, which inroduced this year’s theme, Balance the Scales. The theme calls for a world where all women and girls are safe, heard and free to shape their own lives—recognising that equality is only possible when dignity, safety and fairness are upheld for all.
As part of the activity, each student created a personal pledge for action on a handprint, now displayed across the College as a powerful reminder of our collective commitment. Students also supported IWD by donating sanitary items and toiletries for vulnerable women in the community, purchasing IWD badges to raise funds for Caritas and the work of the RNDMs or wearing a purple ribbon on Friday.
We hope occasions like this inspire our students to advocate for those whose voices are not always heard and to speak out against injustice. As a girls’ school, we are committed to providing strong role models who empower our students to face the future with confidence and a desire to make a positive difference. International Women’s Day offers an important opportunity to highlight the challenges women and girls around the world continue to face.
