Year 9 Outdoor Education

Sand, Surf and Smiles

From 19 to 23  October, the Year 9 cohort travelled to Waratah Bay for camp, where an unforgettable week of adventure, teamwork and personal growth came to life.

The minute the buses rolled into Waratah Bay, a contagious ripple of excitement spread among us as we imagined the beauty, challenges and memories the Bay had in store. Getting off the bus, our eyes sparkled with anticipation and our bodies jittered with energy. As we stepped onto the sand, the fresh coastal air greeted us, instantly sparking a love for both the camp and the beach.

One of the major activities we participated in was the hike. Although it was initially met with a chorus of groans, it became one of the highlights of the week. We hiked 5 km along the coast, which was tiring, but we kept going with positive attitudes and big smiles, stopping for plenty of snacks and breaks along the way. Another major activity was surfing, which was a massive hit with our year level. As we paddled out and attempted to ride the waves, the beach was filled with laughter and joy, despite many of us constantly tumbling off our boards!

At camp, we cooked our own meals, which turned out to be a challenging yet rewarding experience. With a few bumps along the way, each group managed to create a splendid dish for the class. We then sat down together at one long table to share the food, swapping stories and laughing about our day. Whether we were playing in the playground, exploring the beach or even listening to camp briefings, camp was an incredible experience for us all. It left us with countless memories, new friendships and stories we will look back on for years to come.
