Hearts That Listen: A Day of Interfaith Learning and Connection
On the final day of Term 3, Sacred Heart staff came together for a special day of professional learning and faith formation centred on interfaith understanding, listening and connection.
The day provided an opportunity to step outside the familiar and encounter the faith, cultures and experiences of others. Staff visited a synagogue and heard from Rabbi Glasman, whose generous and engaging sharing provided an opportunity to learn more deeply about Jewish faith, culture, traditions and history.
The afternoon, facilitated by Together For Humanity, continued this exploration through personal stories, conversation and small-group experiences. Hearing directly from people about their faith, culture and lived experiences encouraged staff to listen, question and reflect on the perspectives that shape our diverse community.
A recurring theme in staff feedback was the value of hearing personal stories directly from people of different faiths and cultures. Staff described the experience as “insightful and enlightening”, “eye opening” and “spiritually very rewarding”. One staff member reflected that the day had “reminded me of what humanity really is about”, while another described it as “one of the most engaging and purposeful Faith Formation days I have attended.”
The day also created space for staff to connect with one another in an informal setting. As we continue to explore our 2026 theme, Hearts that Listen. Hands that Act, the retreat was a valuable reminder that meaningful action begins with genuine listening — listening to the stories, beliefs and experiences of others with curiosity, respect and openness.
Thank you to Rabbi Glasman, Together For Humanity and all of our presenters for generously sharing their time, knowledge and stories with us, and to our staff for engaging so wholeheartedly in the experience.
It was a meaningful way to finish the term: listening, learning, connecting and broadening our understanding of one another.
