Always striving upwards

Year 9

Year 9 Wellbeing for Learning – The Resilience Project

This term in our Year 9 Wellbeing for Learning lessons, students have been exploring mindfulness through The Resilience Project, with a particular focus on body awareness. Students have been learning that mindfulness is much more than simply "relaxing”. It is about intentionally paying attention to the present moment without judgement.

Throughout our lessons, students have practised a range of mindfulness strategies that help them become more aware of the physical sensations in their bodies. By noticing changes such as muscle tension, breathing, heart rate and posture, students are developing the ability to recognise when they may be feeling stressed, anxious or overwhelmed. This increased body awareness provides them with practical tools to pause, regulate their emotions and respond thoughtfully to challenges.

We encourage families to continue these conversations at home using this week's GEM Chats – Mindfulness resource. The GEM Chats are designed to help families build meaningful connections while reinforcing the wellbeing strategies students are learning at school. This week's prompts invite students to discuss the mindfulness tools they have used and guide families through a simple grounding activity by noticing three things they can see, two things they can hear and one thing they can feel, before reflecting on how they feel afterwards.

By practising these simple activities together, families can help strengthen positive wellbeing habits and encourage mindfulness to become part of everyday life.

We hope you enjoy taking a few moments to pause, connect and reflect together.
