National Harmony Day
Moving Forward Together’s National Harmony Day
In April, I entered a songwriting competition. It was recommended to me by an older student that I know and look up to, who is also a singer/songwriter. She won the competition last year and encouraged me to give it a go. I thought I’d try because, in my eyes, it was just another way to do what I loved.
The creation of the song itself was a spur-of-the-moment thought. Because the competition was for Harmony Day, the song needed to reflect that year's theme. This year's theme was ‘Stronger Together,’ and I remember being really stuck. Then one night, I was on the verge of sleep when I started rhyming words with the theme, and in the next hour, I created a song.
2 months later, the competition was the last thing on my mind. I had all but forgotten about it, and then one evening I received an email stating I had won. I couldn’t believe it. Less than a month later, I was on a plane to New South Wales to collect my award. The ceremony was beautiful. There were so many talented people in the one room, and I'm very grateful for the experience.
Can't wait to enter next year!
