Dedicated Year 11 students volunteered in the Vinnies Winter Sleepout last Friday. This is an annual event that gives students the opportunity to live out the Catholic Social Teachings of Solidarity, Human Dignity and Preferential option for the poor. The focus of the night is supporting and being advocates for those in our community experiencing Homelessness.
Mary and Jenny from Vinnies Kensington Inner City Soup Van joined us on the evening, sharing their stories and experiences of being involved in the Soup Vans. Student’s designed canvas bags to be donated to Vinnies at the end of Term 3, these will be donated along with care items collected by the school community in the Term 3 Winter Appeal.
Year 11 participants graciously stood in the shoes of another and responded with compassion, open minds and loving hearts. Eight hundred dollars was raised on the evening that was graciously accepted by Vinnies Soup Vans. I want to personally thank all teachers and students involved in this wonderful event.
