Junior Mixed Netball

From the students lens:

Students from both Sacred Heart and Salesian paired together to participate in a junior mixed netball competition on 24 October. The day was full of teamwork, improvement and lots of fun.

Both teams started off with a quick warm-up and team introductions before the first round of games began. The first game for both teams was a challenge as most of the boys had never played before and we were still getting used to our team positions and combinations, despite this it was great seeing each player having fun, being competitive and improving.

There are many highlights from the day whether it was watching everyone encourage and cheer on their peers, seeing both teams win their respective final or watching the improvement in the boy’s skills as the day went on.

Overall, the day was a huge success as skills were developed and friendships were made. As we reflected on the day it’s safe to say we all had a lot of fun and came out with a great finish. We're so thankful for the opportunity to participate in the competition as it was one to remember.

From a teacher's lens:

Often when we reflect on a sporting competition our first instinct is to reflect on the success of the competition in terms of winning and losing. We seldom stop to think about the huge opportunity for growth and personal toughness and strength that sport provides us with. The learning alone from this combined school activity, was outstanding. Our girls, both skilled and highly knowledgeable in the game of netball learnt patience, tolerance, team balance and the work it takes to help turn natural talent into on court team success. The boys learnt that their unbridled enthusiasm and raw athleticism needed to be refined and measured in a game of netball. They learnt the value of every player on the court as they worked to use each key position to move the ball, keep possession and to help score goals. Students from both schools were really a joy to coach, providing us with laughter along with some great teachable moments. The winners of the day being both sport and learning.

Standout players for the day were Giselle Q. in the A team and Sienna C. in the B team with rising star awards going to 2 boys from Salesian College.
