Always striving upwards

Deputy Principal - Students

One of the joys of teaching and working with young people is watching each student pass through the seasons of school life. Term 4 is a time of celebrations and transitions.

Generally speaking, we are in the season of Spring, a time for planting and nurturing; for people of the Kulin Nation, this is Buarth Gurru, grass flowering season; for many students, it is study season and for others, it is adventure season.

Our Year 12 students’ VCAA final exams are well underway and the sight of students studying with their peers or quietly in the Library, conferring with their teachers and putting their best effort into this final stretch is both heart-warming and confidence building. One by one, they will transition to life beyond SHGC.

Students in Years 10 and 11 are undergoing revision classes as they prepare for their Semester Two exams. Having worked collaboratively throughout the year, built strong friendships with peers and positive relationships with their teachers, senior students are preparing to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in a more formal setting. We wish each student all the best in their final 2025 studies endeavours. Early Commencement Program is just around the corner!

Students in Years 8 and 9 have recently returned from their Outdoor Education camps in the Marysville and Rubicon Valley areas. There is often a touch of trepidation prior to the camps, but all hesitancy dissipates once they get involved in all that each camp offers. The photos and feedback are testament to the learnings and personal growth gained. Every Year 12 retrospective, without fail, includes Years 7 to 10 camp photos - their highlight each school year.

Students in Year 7 are reaching an important milestone; completion of their first year of secondary school. Their growth and maturity is a joy to see - friendships formed, positive relationships with teachers developed and a greater sense of self-confidence. Many will be surprised to see the Year 7, 2026 at their Orientation Day later this month … they will realise just how far they have come since their first hesitant steps almost twelve months ago.
