In Term 3, the Vinnies team ran the SHGC Vinnies Winter Appeal to assist people experiencing homelessness. Care items such as shampoo, soap and menstrual products were asked to be donated, and with the support and generosity of the College community, we were able to collect an abundance of items to give to those in need. The items will be administered by the Vinnies team in the inner city for people living on the margins to choose the items they need. Alongside the care items, tote bags decorated by the Year 11’s during the Vinnies Winter Sleepout will also be given out.
On any given night, 122,494 people in Australia are experiencing homelessness for a multitude of reasons, such as affordability, family violence or mental health challenges. While the donations make an impact, the contributions from the wider community can help in the effort of assisting people living in homelessness. Once again, thank you to the SHGC community for the generous donations and to the efforts of the Vinnies group from Years 7-12 for organising this year’s appeal.
