Tournament of Minds

The Tournament of Minds regional competition recently took place at Deakin University. This year, we registered four teams who each competed in a different discipline. The students worked diligently in the six weeks leading up to the competition having prepared a solution to a Long-Term challenge which they performed on the day. They were also tasked with solving a Spontaneous Challenge.

Our college was commended for the exceptional talent of our students with the judges were “raving” about each performance. We also commend our senior students, Irene K, Agatha W and Olivia W, who volunteered to judge on the day.

We are proud to announce that our Language Literature team received Honours. Our Social Sciences, STEM and The Arts teams won and will progress to the State Final next month. Please join us in congratulating this wonderful accomplishment!

Year 11 - Philosophy Day for Thinkers

Philosophy Day for Thinkers is an event which encourages students to explore some of the biggest puzzles in philosophy. This year, it was held at LaTrobe University and eight of our Year 11 students engaged with philosophical puzzles that have challenged great minds for centuries.

They explored deep questions about life, morality and the importance of following the logic before making decisions. The students were taken through different sessions and had the opportunity to work with students from across Melbourne.

They were fortunate to be guided through a series of lectures by Julie Arliss, a Farmington Scholar at Harris Manchester College, Oxford. A notable special guest speaker, Dr. Andrew Pinsent, The Research Director of the Ian Ramsey Centre for Science and Religion at the University of Oxford, also videoed in from England to present a session to students.

This was an enriching learning opportunity for our senior students which fostered a profound debate at the end of the day about whether it is love or money that makes the world go round.

The students involved were:

  • Gracie
  • Laila
  • Irene
  • Maddie
  • Eve
  • Elaina
  • Sethmi
