This term at Sacred Heart Girls' College has been vibrant and engaging. Our Year 7 students took part in a class Mass and our Liturgy Group held prayer meetings focusing on the Assumption of Our Lady, the Feast of Mary MacKillop and prayers for peace in conflict zones. Year 12 students have been actively exploring Social Justice organisations, learning about advocacy and activism to drive positive change in communities. We were fortunate to have Sister Joan from ACRATH (Australian Catholic Religious Against Human Trafficking) join us, enriching our understanding of social justice issues.
In August, eighty Year 11 students participated in the Vinnies Winter Sleepout, an annual event that aligns with Catholic Social Teachings such as Solidarity, Human Dignity, and Preferential Option for the Poor. This event not only raised awareness about homelessness but also encouraged students to support those in need. Mary Gardiner and Ashleigh from Vinnies’ inner-city soup van attended, and students created canvas bags filled with care items to be donated at the end of Term 4. The students' participation demonstrated their commitment to understanding and addressing social issues with compassion and practical support.
We also extend a heartfelt thank you to the Sacred Heart community for their generous support of our Walkathon on Sacred Heart Day, which raised $10,020. These funds will aid the RNDM mission work in the Philippines, providing educational opportunities for young indigenous Filipino girls.
Additionally, during the Term 3 holidays, Basia Quill, Maxwell Tribe, and Fiona Smith will volunteer in Vietnam. They will spend two weeks in Ho Chi Minh City teaching English to RNDM Aspirants, Postulants, Novices, Temporary Professed, and Sisters. We wish them all the best in this meaningful endeavour.
