This Term the VCE Vocational Major students, as part of their combined project, were assigned a task to create and sell an eco-friendly, biodegradable and sustainable product. After several discussions the students chose to make and sell their own hand made beeswax wraps which are an eco-friendly alternative to using plastic wraps.
Students worked collaboratively as a team supporting each other and applying practical numeracy skills in a business-like setting. The project was conducted over several weeks and was a true reflection of the type of applied learning that is an integral part of the learning framework of the Vocational Major program at Sacred Heart Girls College. Several numeracy learning outcomes such as budgeting, measurement, data collection and financial planning were achieved.
The final stage of the project was to sell the beeswax wraps to staff with all money raised being donated to the work of the RNDM Sisters who, as we all know support vulnerable communities in our world, especially women and children. The students meticulously prepared the beeswax wraps for sale with a very impressive display and sales pitch. The wraps sold out within an hour of the launch proving that the project was a great success thanks to the hard work of all students!
