VCE Visual Communication Design

At the beginning of Term 1, our VCE Visual Communication Design students had the valuable opportunity to visit Melbourne Museum's Design Forum and the Top Designs exhibition. This excursion showcased exemplary student work that highlighted the complete design process - from initial research and experimentation through to final development. The 2025 Top Designs exhibitors particularly impressed our students by addressing contemporary global challenges, presenting innovative solutions in sustainability, community engagement and artistic craftsmanship. These outstanding works serve as both inspiration and benchmark for our own students' design practice.

VCE Art

The VCE Art classes went to visit Yayoi Kusama' art exhibition at the NGV. Kusama is one of the world’s most celebrated living artists. The class was immersed in her infinity mirror room, and marvelled at her sculpture, photography and collage. This experience, along with their visit to the Top Arts display of the best VCE student art from 2024, will help their own creative journey.

MSO Excursion

The Year 10 and 11 Music students had the privilege of attending a live performance by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at Hamer Hall. It was a fantastic experience for our music students, who had the opportunity to see professional musicians in action. Although brief, it was a valuable and inspiring educational excursion.

VCE Top Class Music Excursion

Top Class Music showcases outstanding young musicians from across Victoria who excelled in their 2024 VCE and VCE VET Music performance and composition assessments. This excursion gave our Year 11 Music students at Sacred Heart a glimpse of the high standard expected in their final year. It provided valuable insight into how they can best prepare for their own performance examinations.

SMASH

SMASH is a collaborative concert involving four local Catholic schools: Salesian College, Mazenod College, Avila College, and Sacred Heart. Our students are excited to participate once again in the 2025 SMASH Annual Music Concert, which will be held at Avila College this year. This event allows students to make music and meaningful connections with their peers from other schools — an experience they thoroughly enjoyed.

Music Camp

Music students from a variety of year levels went on an two night Music Camp for an intense process of rehearsal and performance. Students used the concentrated time to prepare for their many upcoming live performances, work on their individual instrumental skills and combine in a group to enhance their cohesion and collaborative learning.

This was a time of joyful creativity for all!
